The longhorns lead off the Stock Show Parade in downtown Denver, Colorado every January. On this very cold morning, I waited for them to step out of the shadows of the tall buildings into the sunshine. I was so happy to capture the moment when the cowboy in charge held out his arm to slow the herd with an authority he expected these cattle to understand. In a split second, they were past me, making their way through the city streets to the Denver Coliseum.
This painting hung in the rotunda of the Colorado State Capitol in Denver as part of the Creative Capitol Exhibition, and was on loan to the Lieutenant Governor's office for 6 months before it was juried into the 2012 Mountain Oyster Club's Annual National Western Art Show & Sale, where it was purchased by the club for their private collection.
